 BIG SIGNAL Balun 1:1
1:1 Current Balun for 50-Ohm Balanced Antennas
The BIG SIGNAL Balun 1:1 is a high-performance current balun designed to provide the proper transition between a 50-ohm unbalanced coaxial feed line and a balanced antenna or driven element with an impedance close to 50 Ohms.
Its primary function is to promote a balanced current distribution between both sides of the driven element while presenting a high impedance to common-mode currents that may otherwise flow along the outside of the coaxial cable shield.
Type: current balun
Ratio: 1:1
Application: balanced antennas with impedance close to 50 Ohms
Input: unbalanced coaxial feed line
Output: balanced antenna element
Primary function: balance driven-element currents and suppress common-mode currents
Typical applications: dipoles / Yagis / loops / directional antennas and other balanced antenna systems

Why Use a 1:1 Current Balun?
• Balances current in the driven element
Helps maintain symmetrical current distribution between both sides of a balanced antenna, allowing the antenna system to operate more closely to its intended design.
• Reduces common-mode currents
Presents a high impedance to unwanted currents that may flow along the outside surface of the coaxial cable shield, helping decouple the feed line from the antenna.
• Helps preserve the radiation pattern
By reducing unwanted participation of the coaxial feed line in the radiating system, it can help minimize asymmetry and distortion of the antenna's radiation pattern.
• Improves feed-line isolation
Helps prevent the outside of the coaxial cable from becoming an unintended part of the antenna, providing a more controlled transition between the unbalanced feed line and the balanced antenna element.
• Can reduce unwanted RF in the shack
Reducing common-mode currents can help minimize RF conducted back toward the radio shack along the outside of the coaxial feed line, as well as certain RFI and equipment-coupling issues.
• 1:1 ratio with no impedance transformation
The balun maintains a 1:1 impedance ratio, making it especially suitable for balanced antennas with a feed-point impedance close to 50 Ohms.

A More Balanced Feed for Your Antenna
The BIG SIGNAL Balun 1:1 is especially well suited for feeding balanced antennas from a 50-ohm coaxial line, helping maintain symmetrical current distribution while limiting unwanted common-mode currents on the coaxial feed line.
Dipoles with feed-point impedance close to 50 Ohms.
Yagi antennas with balanced driven elements.
Loops and loop antennas with compatible feed-point impedance.
• Directional antennas with balanced feed systems.
• Installations where common-mode current suppression is required.
• Stations requiring improved isolation between the antenna and coaxial feed line.
Balanced Currents. Less Common Mode. Better Control of Your Antenna System.
The BIG SIGNAL Balun 1:1 provides a controlled transition between unbalanced coaxial feed lines and balanced antennas with an impedance close to 50 Ohms, helping balance driven-element currents, reduce common-mode currents, and maintain the antenna's intended performance.
